The study found that specialized cells formed through mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) temporarily act like cellular “bandages,” covering damaged areas before being replaced by normal uterine cells. Understanding this healing mechanism could provide new insights into conditions such as endometriosis, endometrial cancer, and infertility, where the repair process may go wrong. By identifying the signaling pathways involved in MET, scientists hope to develop future therapies that promote healthy uterine repair and improve reproductive health.
