New Eye-Scanning Test Could Detect Anemia Without Needles 👁️

Scientists have developed a new AI-powered screening method that may detect anemia simply by filming the blood vessels in a person’s eye – no blood draw required. The system analyzes short videos of the white part of the eye to estimate hemoglobin and red blood cell levels.
In an early study involving 224 participants, the technology identified anemia with over 80% accuracy. Researchers say the method could eventually become a fast, noninvasive screening tool, especially useful in low-resource settings or for patients needing frequent monitoring, such as those undergoing dialysis or cancer treatment.
Although promising, scientists caution that the technology still requires larger studies before it can be widely used in clinical practice.
