Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is an inherited disorder in which fluid-filled cysts gradually develop and enlarge inside the kidneys, potentially damaging healthy tissue over time. The disease can remain silent for years, but warning signs may include high blood pressure at a young age, persistent back or side pain, blood in the urine, recurrent urinary infections, and kidney stones. Early diagnosis through ultrasound and other imaging can help doctors monitor kidney function, control blood pressure, and slow disease progression. Although there is currently no cure, lifestyle changes and treatments such as tolvaptan may help preserve kidney function and delay kidney failure.
