Fatty liver disease, once considered a harmless condition, is now being recognized as a growing driver of liver cancer in India. Experts warn that excess fat in the liver can silently progress to inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and eventually liver cancer if left untreated.
The rise in obesity, diabetes, sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and alcohol consumption has significantly increased the burden of liver disease. Alarmingly, many people remain unaware they have fatty liver because symptoms often appear only after substantial damage has occurred.
Doctors emphasize that early detection, regular screening for high-risk individuals, weight management, exercise, healthy eating, and limiting alcohol intake are crucial steps to prevent irreversible liver damage and reduce the risk of liver cancer.
