Tiny MicroRNAs Show Promise in Slowing Lung Cancer Growth 🫁

Researchers at Texas A&M have identified two naturally occurring molecules, microRNA-15a and microRNA-16 – that can significantly slow the growth of non-small cell lung cancer cells. These microRNAs help regulate protein production and restore normal cellular balance, reducing the uncontrolled growth that drives cancer. While the discovery is not a cure, scientists believe it could become part of future combination therapies alongside surgery, radiation, or targeted drugs. The team is now exploring ways to deliver these microRNAs directly to tumor cells using engineered viral systems. This promising approach may one day help slow lung cancer progression and improve patient survival.
