New Genetic Discoveries Offer Hope for Osteoarthritis Treatments
An international study published in Nature analyzed genetic data from nearly 2 million individuals to identify 962 variants and 69 key genes associated with osteoarthritis (OA), the most common form of arthritis. Led by Helmholtz Munich and involving 125 institutions, it is the largest genetic investigation of OA. The study revealed that protein products of the identified genes are targets of 473 existing drugs, highlighting repurposing opportunities for disease-modifying OA treatments. This approach could accelerate precision medicine and reduce drug development costs. Red more at Nature.com
