A study analyzing data from more than 49,000 UK Biobank participants found that coffee type may be associated with biological aging. People who consumed filtered coffee generally showed markers linked to slower biological aging, including lower biological age-acceleration scores and longer telomeres. In contrast, instant coffee consumption was associated with patterns suggesting slightly faster biological aging. However, the differences were small, and the study was cross-sectional, meaning it cannot prove that coffee directly causes changes in aging. Researchers also noted that factors such as inflammation, metabolism, and kidney-related markers may partly explain the associations. More research is needed before dietary recommendations can be made.
