Researchers are launching a national clinical trial platform backed by up to $41 million in federal funding to accelerate the search for ways to prevent or slow Alzheimer’s disease. Led by Mass General Brigham, the four-year initiative will test five to 10 treatment regimens, including natural products and existing FDA-approved medicines, within a shared trial system. Researchers will use blood-based biomarkers, including p-tau217, to identify participants showing early biological signs of Alzheimer’s before significant cognitive decline develops. The platform aims to compare promising approaches more efficiently, discontinue ineffective candidates and advance the strongest treatments to larger trials. However, effective prevention has yet to be established.
