Gold Nanoparticle Blood Test Could Detect Liver Fibrosis Early 🩸

Researchers have developed an ultrasensitive gold nanoparticle-based biosensor that can detect early-stage liver fibrosis using just a small blood sample. The device identifies PICP, a protein released during the formation of liver scar tissue, by measuring tiny electrical changes when the biomarker binds to antibodies on the sensor. In patient testing, the technology achieved 95.24% sensitivity and 100% specificity, accurately distinguishing people with liver fibrosis from healthy individuals. Because it requires only a simple blood test and no painful liver biopsy, the biosensor could pave the way for portable, affordable diagnostic devices that enable earlier detection and treatment of chronic liver disease.
